winter camp on beaver lake

it after christmas and before new years.  kinda an awkward time.
why not go camping?  ok.
how about skiing and snowshoe camping pulling trailers with our gear?  ok
why not go across a frozen lake and spend 2 nights under a tarp?  ok.
and ice fishing?  ok.

thats what happened.

we got off to a bit of a dark start, it wasn't late, just early sunset.  put we pulled or gear across a slushy lake in the sweetest sunset ever.  my picture is bad, but trust me... it was awesome.

once we got there we had to build a fort to sleep in.  we didn't have the forethought to bring sweet gear across in the summer and stash it.  there are a few random structures on the island, so we used the lean-to shaped one.

i love forts.
we settled in to a sweet fire and pellet gun shooting and ice fishing.

basically the next 3 days looked like this...

home sweet home
we did this...

and ate these...

and these... perogies cooked over the fire.  best i ever had.  do it.  thanks to the magical grill of the house of anderson with a +7 to meat.

we had a chainsaw, so firewood was never an issue.  thanks to kris for doing all the cutting.

we spent a lot of time sitting here

and a bit of time sitting here.

and we had this view

our fort got pretty comfy.  5 of us and a dog in there.  and a fire, most of the time.

and the next two nights looked like this...

this ran non-stop

another glorious sunset

our favorite view, night or day.
i don't think we were ever cold.  or uncomfortable, or unhappy.

the clouds from the sunset melted into the starriest sky

and then we went to bed.
what an awesome trip.  i can't saw thanks enough to nathan peacock from half 9 media for being such a cool dood, and almost as importantly, an amazing photographer.  All the best pictures in this post were taken by him.

we hope he's a more permanent fixture in TEAM AWESOME so we can get more righteous photos.
and he's cool.

if you didn't make it on this adventure, you sure missed out, but have no fear.... more to come.
